American Idol Season 7 Finale
Who can resist writing about one of the best seasons of American Idol? I’ve watched most of the episodes in this season (at least, the latter parts). I can’t even wait for the show to start airing in the Philippines (the woes of not having cable TV connection) and watched the videos uploaded in YouTube.
It’s DC (the rocker) versus DA (the balladeer). Who knows who would win the contest? They are both good in their chosen genre. This reminds me of the showdown between Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice. They are both good.
Actually, the reason why I decided to watch AI is because of David Archuleta. For a 17-year old kid, he is good. I really liked his rendition of Imagine, it gave me the chills. But throughout the season, I noticed that he sings the same way over and over again. He got boring, so to speak. But then, he’s just young, and I am looking forward to his growth as a recording artist.
Now in all honesty, I didn’t like David Cook at the start. I was turned off when he got pissed off at Simon during one of the Top 24 performances. But he got better and better, and I was converted after hearing his rendition of Always Be My Baby. It was so famous, I hear it being played almost everyday (and I hear that it was number 2 at the US charts). Moreover, David Cook showed his versatility during the Andrew Lloyd Webber night. His version of The Music of the Night was so good.
Prior to the finals night, I would say that David Cook is better than David Archuleta.
Here comes the finals night. Simon was rooting for David Archuleta. Come on, David Cook’s performance is not that bad! In fact, I really loved his performances. He stuck to being a rock star (choosing not to show his versatility), and he was really on his element. Who says that Dream Big does not sound like a winning song? But then, I would have to admit that David Archuleta had the advantage because he was the second performer. Plus, DA is a balladeer, so people tend to remember his powerful vocals. If you switch the order of performances, David Cook would have the advantage.
In the third round, DA repeated his performance of Imagine. If that’s the case, DC should have repeated Always Be My Baby. Ahaha. But then, I really love his version of The World I Know. And I disagree with Simon, it is not a bad song choice at all. (Okay, maybe I’m being biased because I really love the song.) I definitely prefer it over DA’s repeat performance of Imagine.
In my opinion, they are tied. It’s up to America to decide their fates. Who has a larger fan base, I wonder? As for me, I’m going to buy their albums.
